In 1907 Oliver Perry Jenkins had a vision for a furniture store in downtown Knoxville. Less than 200 feet away from the original store and 100 years later, that vision is alive and well in the fourth generation under the direction of Terry and Meg Troutman. Meg is the great granddaughter of O. P. Jenkins.

Since opening in 1907,O. P. Jenkins has been owned and managed by family members. Toward the end of the depression, Mr. Jenkins was joined by his son-in-law Jack Sherwood who directed the business through the war into the sixties. His son Don Sherwood worked at O.P. Jenkins from 1958-1966. He managed Maryville Furniture Store untill 1998. Jack's son, Bobby Sherwood entered the business in 1963 and was active in management until 2005. In 1984 he was joined by his son-in-law Terry Troutman, who along with his wife Meg presently own and operate the business.

Each generation has made contributions as they expanded, adopted and changed to meet the demands of a growing Knoxville market. Through the whole history they have been known for excellent service and selling quality merchandise at reasonable prices.
