In
1907 Oliver Perry Jenkins had a vision for a furniture store in downtown
Knoxville. Less than 200 feet away from the original store and 100 years
later, that vision is alive and well in the fourth generation under the
direction of Terry and Meg Troutman. Meg is the great granddaughter of
O. P. Jenkins.
Located at 209 W. Summit Hill Drive, O. P. Jenkins offers high quality
furniture and home accessories at extremely affordable prices. With low
overhead they are able to pass savings on to customers in a way that
other stores are unable to accomplish. Customers are often surprised at
how the furniture is reasonably priced.
O. P. Jenkins Furniture is not afraid to be different. In fact, they try
to be different from other stores in the Knoxville area. Customers keep
coming back because the merchandise changes daily. New looks, different
home accessories, varied styles of rugs and linens, plus fabulous
upholstery choices have made the store a downtown treasure.
The store’s four floors of furniture make O. P. Jenkins Furniture Store
the largest retail store in the heart of downtown Knoxville. At a time
when downtown Knoxville is changing and growing, it is fun to visit a
store that has literally been there for 100 years.
Because of all the activity and excitement downtown, O. P. Jenkins is
open daily and stays open on Thursday and Friday nights. An experienced
design team is available to help you choose fabrics, select the right
colors, and put together a complete room or a full house. There is free
parking and quick delivery and set-up service. Shopping at O. P.’s is a
unique shopping experience. There is something for everyone.
Since opening in 1907,O. P. Jenkins has been owned and managed by family
members. Toward the end of the depression, Mr. Jenkins was joined by his
son-in-law Jack Sherwood who directed the business through the war into
the sixties. His son Don Sherwood worked at O.P. Jenkins from 1958-1966.
He managed Maryville Furniture Store untill 1998. Jack's son, Bobby Sherwood entered the business in 1963 and
was active in management until 2005. In 1984 he was joined by his
son-in-law Terry Troutman, who along with his wife Meg presently own and
operate the business.
Each generation has made contributions as they expanded, adopted and
changed to meet the demands of a growing Knoxville market. Through the
whole history they have been known for excellent service and selling
quality merchandise at reasonable prices.
With 100 years of history and four generations of family operation, O.
P. Jenkins is truly a furniture destination for the Knoxville metro
area. As the Troutmans say “we have something for everybody, an item for
every lifestyle and budget”. |
